Maintenance Technician
Position Summary
This is skilled work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of facilities, buildings, equipment, and fixtures. Employees in this position perform a variety of skilled maintenance and repair tasks in designated trade areas. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Plant Services Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following are considered essential functions of this position:
- Utilize appropriate tools and equipment to operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair hospital buildings, utility systems, and related equipment.
- Monitor, interpret, and respond to information provided by the Building Energy Management System.
- Demonstrate intermediate-level skills in at least one building trade, including Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, HVAC, or Cabinetry.
- Maintain accurate and complete work records.
- Provide excellent customer service while interacting with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Recognize occupational hazards and follow appropriate safety procedures and precautions.
- Remove snow and ice from parking lots, sidewalks, entrances, and other access areas.
- Set up and tear down rooms and facilities for meetings, events, and special functions.
- Pick up and deliver equipment as needed for homebound patients.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to maintenance emergencies as scheduled.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Valid Montana Driver's License required.
- Willingness and ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to successfully perform all essential job functions.
While all employees in this classification are considered general maintenance technicians, preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Carpentry
- Cabinet Making
- Electrical Systems
- Plumbing
- Boiler Maintenance
- Grounds Maintenance
- HVAC Systems
- General Construction
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One year of related work experience or training preferred; or
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience totaling at least one year.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of building maintenance practices, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and repair facility and equipment issues.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions and safety procedures.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to safety, customer service, and quality workmanship.
